November in Vienna brings singing from balconies, museum visits, art events, and evenings filled with light projections. Christmas markets also begin opening throughout the month, but they are not the only reason to head into the city as the days grow shorter.
These are my picks for November 2026, with dates and practical information to help you plan your visit.
Program details may change, especially for outdoor events. Check the organizer’s official website before visiting. Food, drinks, and additional activities may cost extra.
The first Sunday of November falls on the first day of the month this year. It is an opportunity to explore permanent collections and temporary exhibitions at participating Wien Museum locations.

You could begin at the main museum on Karlsplatz or choose a smaller location, such as the Beethoven Museum in Heiligenstadt, the Clock Museum, or the Roman Museum. The permanent exhibition at the main Wien Museum building is free throughout the year, while the first Sunday also provides access to temporary exhibitions. Check the opening hours of your chosen location before setting out.

Wiener Lichtblicke, with this year’s theme Wintersonne (“Winter Sun”), combines light art, local history, poetry, and sound. Visitors can choose images and operate the projectors themselves, helping shape the projections.
The events begin at different meeting points, from Loquaiplatz to Schwedenplatz. Stories about Vienna’s social history and poetry accompany the program.

As you walk through Kohlmarkt, Graben, or Neuer Markt, music will also be coming from the balconies above. Balcanto opens the international a cappella festival VOICE MANIA, with vocal groups and soloists performing without instruments or amplification.
You can move between locations rather than spend the whole afternoon in front of one stage. The program includes pop, jazz, soul, folk songs, and other genres. A Cappella to Go takes place at the same time, with performers accompanying passersby with a song on request.

After the performances in the city center, the program continues with a closing concert at INTERSPAR am Schottentor. Balcanto and this closing concert are free, while other VOICE MANIA concerts have separate admission arrangements.

Vienna Art Week connects museums, galleries, art spaces, and studios across the city. The program includes exhibitions, talks, performances, and guided tours, so you can choose one event or visit several different spaces during the week.
Studio visits and guided tours are particularly worth considering. They offer a chance to learn about artists’ work and enter spaces you might not otherwise visit.

Festival events are free, but some have limited capacity and require advance registration. This does not mean that regular admission to every participating museum is free throughout the week. Check the conditions for each event.

The Vienna City Card combines public transport within Vienna’s city fare zone with discounts at participating attractions, restaurants, and shops. It can be useful if you plan to visit several markets and use the discounts during your stay.
Tag der Wiener Spaziergänge offers three themed guided tours starting at the University of Vienna’s main building. You can explore its arcaded courtyard, hear stories about nearby palaces and Beethoven’s Pasqualatihaus, or learn about the construction of the university, City Hall, and Parliament.
It is a good option if you recognize the buildings around the Ringstrasse but know little about their history. The tours connect architecture with the people, politics, and changes that shaped Vienna.
Groups are assigned on site. A place on your preferred tour or at a particular time is not guaranteed, so allow for possible waiting times.

Wald der jungen Wiener*innen is an annual family tree-planting event. This year, it takes place in Donaustadt, on land beside Telephonweg between Simonsgasse and Rosenbergstraße.
If you would like to spend part of the day outdoors and contribute to something that will keep growing after you leave, this offers a different activity from a typical city walk. I would wear shoes that can handle mud and warm clothing suitable for spending several hours outside.

Seestadt is hosting SeeLightNight for the first time this year. Residents, local initiatives, associations, and businesses have helped create this community festival of light.
Seepark will host projections, performances, and activities you can join. The program includes lantern-making, drawing images for projections, shadow theater, and glowing hula hoops. Stage performances include dancing, a flashlight story reading, and a choir concert.

You can bring your own lantern with an LED light or make one on site and add it to a shared light installation on the lawn. A closing presentation by the lake is scheduled just before 8 p.m.

The Laternenzauber am Schlingermarkt guided walk connects the market’s history with the people who work there every day. You will meet vendors, hear stories about the neighborhood, and learn about changes planned for this part of Floridsdorf.
The program includes small tastings at market stalls and finishes with tea and gingerbread at the organizer’s neighborhood office. You can bring your own lantern. A limited number will also be available to borrow.
The walk is conducted in German and welcomes adults and children ages four and older.

Vienna’s Christmas market season begins in November. Stalls selling decorations, crafts, and food provide another reason for an evening walk, and you do not need to buy anything to enjoy a visit.
